On a vine leaf, into a dewdrop, the novelist saw a whole small, but lively world. He didn’t see it, but he imagined it! It’s not for nothing that people say that he has a big, encyclopedic head, that he dreams a lot and what he dreams, he writes. He put himself in the hypostasis of the one who suffered in prison and wrote about washing prisoners with a hose. From the lurid cement, full of torment, the writer’s keys reached in ocean, looking at the multitude of fish around him. A rhincodon typus[1] just walks past him and he waves at it. The blue shark, it can also be mauve, tells him that his last book was incisive with the aquatic world, so that the writer, with a targeted rictus, replied that he would remove it from the landscape. The blue-headed jellyfish flew out of the water into the first cloud, out of interest, not from palmarès, where it met the green-eyed alligator, always honest, always intuitive. Why precisely him? Because Aunt Ulfina, Diorticos’ mother’s sister, had had an active exchange of lines with her servant, an unwashed carnivore, who only wants in blood. The craftsman is the one who awakens others[2]. The cantemirean deer surpasses any expectation of 21st century plagiarists. His piercing eyes convinced you. Dressed in words, only in words, the man made her fall in love forever. And she, running after him, like after a train that is lost beyond the horizon, did not know what phone number to call him at.
When people had patient, oh, so much patient!, the novels were written, but they were also read. Now, when we run after the end as after the beginning, you have to write the novel before finishing it, because before finishing it, it is read. What did the personage Mădălin do in the end?, that is the question! If you tell him that he died, he asks you: And why was he born anyway, if he died?! But if you tell him that his sister was, actually, his mistress, he will tell you dryly: What great incest was that, that and so Sorina was woe to her mother?! But the reader’s lack of sensitivity comes from the autostrada of porno with which he is taught and which makes it dilapidated before 18 years of age. Directed horror incites group satanism. While I was translating LaVey’s two-lion masterpiece, others were making it a way of being, a horrifying dehumanization. And if the Divine Icon of the Lord from Sinai[3] makes you feel that He looks at you deep within, showing you that your fulfillment is your deification, the one experienced in relationship with Him and with the Father and with the Holy Ghost, the one who satanizes you with his words is throwing you food to pigs, throwing you into endless torment, because he envies your well-being. The beauty you preserve through prayer and purity, through continuous dedication. Goya’s satanism is also Baudelaire’s satanism. A witch paid to lie to you is just as effective in teaching evil as any source of evil, because what is important is to go to the mouth of the canal of sin. The trivialization of sin is a multiplication of evil. If you do not deny it, the weed grows. But if you have prayer in your hands, continuous prayer, it fills you with a good fragrance, makes you beautiful, fills you with simplicity, because the silence is also learned and the beauty is breathed.
Those imprisoned were martyred and thrown into the ground like the grain of wheat. And when you dig them up, you have Holy Relics in your hands. And he took me in his car because he was going to a football game with the team. He picked them up on the road. And if yesterday, from the two women, getting off the bus at Philosopher[4] in the village, we learned that there is Răsmirești in Teleorman[5], although they pronounced it răz and not răs, today we learned that there is also Bragadiru of Teleorman[6]. I am surprised, then I am surprised again. I change my mind, I drink braga[7], because it’s good, if it’s cold and well-made, later in the evening, after the vipia[8] passes. And if his grave is near the Păltiniș Hermitage Church[9], when I pass by the round Chapel I often worship, although people think I worship the forest, because not many people know about his mansion in Vitănești[10]. And the woman wore the book on her head[11], because she wanted to pass the baccalaureate swimming. That doesn’t mean she passed it. His face, from 1585, is red in the cheek[12]. But Bosch[13] is not identical to Bosch[14]! And you must know to make the difference, you always must know the difference. And what else did he say, foreman, what else did he say?! He used to say: Mărine, at your wedding, all the girls were playing! And in all that play, only one kept crying, and hence all the drama of that day. Because she was in love, that’s why! And love makes you feel when to dot the i’s and why. And my longing and a scabiosa, oh, oh, so it’s hard to decide whether it’s cephalaria transsilvanica or scabiosa ochroleuca[15]. The doina[16] is a lament[17], one that doesn’t leave you even if you sing it. And if some people think that the melancholy is something easy to express, then they should know that no, it’s not like that. Because precisely what seems self-evident is the most difficult to translate.
