Sermon on the 13th Sunday after Pentecost [2026]
My beloveds[1],
now, at the end of the churchly year, we have an evangelical parable, in which the Lord speaks mysteriously about the world before and after Him. For Hristos the Lord is the man [ἄνθρωπός] and the master of the house [οἰκοδεσπότης][Matteos 21, 33, BYZ]. And He is man, because He became incarnate for us, and He is the master of the house because He is the head of His Church. And the Lord planted His Vineyard, that is, His Church, and placed around it the fence of His commandments and dug in it the winepress of ascesis. And He built a tower for His Vineyard [Ibidem], that is, a divine way of life, so that it might see far through the grace of God. For if you do not see through His glory, you see nothing. But if you see through His glory, you see far, you see as if you were climbing a tower, as if looking through a spyglass. You see far[2].
And when the Lord says that He has hired workers for His Vineyard [Matteos 21, 33, BYZ], for His Church, He tells us that He has called us, His Servants, to Himself. But here, by the vinedressers, he speaks equally of the workers of the Old Testament, but also of the New Testament. By all those He has called to His service. The vinedressers are one, those who serve Him on earth, who serve Him liturgically, while His slaves [τοὺς δούλους Αὐτοῦ][Matteos 21, 34, BYZ] are His Saints. And the Saints are His slaves, because the greatest slavery is the love of God. Because the Saints are one with God because they love Him inexpressibly. And the difference between the liturgical servants and His Saints is enormous. Because the servants, without fear of God, without a good conscience, „beat one, and another they killed, and another they stoned” [Matteos 21, 35, BYZ]. [3].
How does a servant of the Church end up killing the Saints of God, when he must serve the salvation of all? From a real misunderstanding of the will of God! Only when you do not know who you are and what you should do, do you end up committing such abominable crimes. And from here we understand the earth-shattering vocation of the Priesthood, that of serving the salvation of all with humility and peace. Because the members of the churchly hierarchy are not satraps of the Church, but its servants. The servants of the Church must be the example to follow, they must be the light of the Church. But when the light becomes darkness, then the most odious crimes are committed. Because they are done „in the name of the Lord”, that is, against His will[4].
God sent His Saints to the people of Israil, but Israil killed them [Matteos 21, 36, BYZ]. Whereupon He sent His Son, thinking that they would be ashamed of Him [Matteos 21, 37, BYZ]. But they, on Heir [Matteos 21, 38, BYZ], on the Son incarnate, cast Him out of the vineyard, out of the city of Jerusalem, and killed Him [Matteos 21, 39, BYZ]. And He prophesied to them about Himself, He spoke explicitly to them about their hatred, about the deicide, from which they did not stop. Because hatred is blind, it is full of madness, and it takes its madness to the end[5].
And what will God do to these workers? [Matteos 21, 40, BYZ]. How will He punish them? And they answered Him, giving their own verdict: „The wicked with evil will be destroyed and will lease the vineyard to other workers, who will render to Him the fruits in their times” [Matteos 21, 41, BYZ]. He will take His vineyard from Israil and give it to all the nations, so that they may bear the fruits of their faith. For our faith is manifested through everything we do. And the works of our faith are its blessed fruits. And when the Lord spoke to them of Him as „The Stone which the builders rejected [Λίθον ὃν ἀπεδοκίμασαν οἱ οἰκοδομοῦντες]” [Matteos 21, 42, BYZ] and when He told them that the Emperordom of God would be taken from them [Matteos 21, 43, BYZ], the archiereuses and pharisees „knew that He was speaking of them [ἔγνωσαν ὅτι περὶ αὐτῶν λέγει]” [Matteos 21, 45, BYZ]. And, nevertheless, they continued to seek to seize Him [Matteos 21, 46, BYZ], in order to carry their folly of unbelief to its conclusion. Because they killed their God, Whom they were waiting for and still are waiting for[6].
Therefore, my beloveds, whoever falls on the Stone will be shattered, and on whom the Stone falls, he will be crushed [Mattheos 21, 44, BYZ]. For whoever fights against God will perish terribly. Therefore, at the end of the churchly year, we must pay attention to ourselves, to our life. To see if we serve God. Because serving Him means doing His will and not fighting His will with us. As servants of the Church, we must do the will of God in everything. And when we fall into a sin, let us recognize it with repentance and confess it before Him. Because He forgives us all our sins and iniquities, if we repent for them. Amin[7]!

Amin!
